5 Ways to Open Terminal on Ubuntu

But knowing how to use Terminal is important for Linux users, there are many things you can do from Terminal on Linux, including Ubuntu.

The easiest and most widely used way by Linux users is to use a combination keyboard or keyboard shortcuts. This method is perfect for those of you who prefer to play with keyboard compared to shifting mouse and touchpad to do something.
This method is very easy, you only need to press three buttons on the keyboard simultaneously, that is CTRL + ALT + T then Terminal will open immediately.

Another way that is widely used is to use the Ubuntu Dash. This method is quite easy. You just need to press the button “Start” or button “Windows” on keyboard you, it will open the Ubuntu Dash on your desktop.
Type the word “Terminal” in the search box in the Ubuntu Dash, then it will appear icon Terminal application results in search. You can select and open it by pressing Enter or click on icon it by using mouse. Then Terminal will open by itself.

This method is almost the same as the previous method, suitable for you users who are lazy to play with keyboard and prefer to use mouse or touchpad.
Click on the Launcher or Ubuntu logo in the upper right of your desktop. Then it will open Ubuntu Dash, but instead of typing the application you want to open in the Ubuntu Dash as before, you can choose to do scroll to browse to the application you want to open.
Then click icon like letters “A” which is under the Ubuntu Dash to see all applications.
Then you can do scroll on the Ubuntu Dash to browse and search for the application you want to open, because you want to open Terminal search until you manage to find Terminal.
You can also do do filter from the category of applications you want to open on the Ubuntu Dash, to search for Terminal you can select filter “System” category

This method is another relatively fast and quite effective way to open Terminal on your Ubuntu.
Almost the same as using the method in method number 2 above. If method number 2 is you have to enter the name of the application you want to open on the Ubuntu Dash, this method directly runs the command to open the Terminal.
Open Ubuntu Dash window to run command by using a combination keyboard or shortcuts ALT + F2 on keyboards. Then enter the command or package name in the window.
Since Ubuntu uses GNOME Terminal, enter the command “gnome-terminal” on that window. Then icon Terminal will appear, click or press Enter on icon it to open it.
5. Open Terminal In A New Session Using CTRL + ALT + “Function Keys”

All of the above previously opened Terminal on your Ubuntu desktop environment. But there is one other program that you can use, maybe this method is rarely used for general use.
But there will come a time when you will have to go this way, switching to a Terminal that is not in the environment and using it in a completely command-line interface.
In general, this method is usually done for certain purposes, such as when you want to install drivers graphics or do anything you can’t do when you’re in a desktop environment with a graphical interface.
To switch to this interface, press the combination keyboard or keyboard shortcuts CTRL+ALT+F1 simultaneously on your keyboard. Then you will switch to an interface full of new command lines.
Then login as user which is to start using it as a new session. You can also use a combination keyboard CTRL+ALT+F2, CTRL+ALT+F3 and so on until CTRL+ALT+F6 to open a new session from this command line interface.
To return to the graphical interface press the combination keyboard or shortcuts CTRL+ALT+F7 on the keyboard at the same time.
