The Law of Plural Prayers

Plural Prayers When It Rains

It is permissible to pluralize when it rains based on several narrations from friends and tabi’in (students of friends) and tabi’ut tabi’in (students of tabi’in) as follows:

  1. From Nafi’ (a tabi’in) he related that Abdulloh ibn Umar in the past when the government leaders (umara’) used to mix the Maghrib prayer with ‘Ishak when it rained, so he also plucked with them.
  2. From Musa bin ‘Uqbah, he narrated that in the past Umar bin Abdul ‘Aziz used to mix the Maghrib prayer with the ‘Ishak prayer when it rained, and indeed Sa’id ibnul Musayyib (tabi’in), Urwah bin Zubeir, Abu Bakr bin Abdurrahman and the leaders (experts of science) at that time always prayed with them and did not deny the act.
  3. From Ibn ‘Abbas radhiyallohu ‘anhumahe narrates: That in the past the Messenger of Allah sallallaho alaihe wa sallam used to mix between the noon prayer and ‘Asr prayer and between the Maghrib prayer and the ‘Ishak prayer in Medina in a situation not because of fear and not because of the rain. So Ibn ‘Abbas was asked ‘Why did he (the Prophet) do that?’ then Ibn ‘Abbas replied: ‘He intends not to burden his ummah.’ (HR. Muslim and others)

Shaykh Muhammad bin Sholeh Al ‘Utsaimin said: “The most important thing is to do it with plural taqdim (at the time of the first prayer / maghrib -pent); because that is more a reflection of a gentle attitude towards humans, that’s why you will find that all people when it rains do not do plural except by means of plural taqdim.” (Syarhul Mumti’ page 563).

The same is true for other reasons. Can people pray at home in plural?
