Even though it is expected to be a thriller film, “Paranoia” is actually still unable to get rid of the dramatic and romantic style of Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza in the previous films. The fears and worries that had formed at the beginning of “Paranoia” slowly faded away and turned into a monotonous drama story.
When the lights in the cinema are turned off, Paranoia can actually amaze the audience with its dark and gloomy opening scene and enhance the thriller’s mood.
Synopsis of Paranoia Film
Paranoia tells the story of Nirina Zubir, a woman who is always suspicious and too afraid. He even forbids his daughter Laura (Caitlin North-Lewis) from contacting other people without his permission. But when he is at work, he becomes someone else. As a villa manager in Bali, Dina is very friendly to guests. Until one day, Dina is surprised because one of the visitors named Rahim turns out to be a friend of Gion (Lukman Sardi).

Dina learns from Rahim that Gion has been released from prison. Without thinking, Dina asked Laura to pack her things and leave the house immediately. Dina even asked Laura to burn something in her house to cover the tracks so Gion wouldn’t be caught.
After everything was settled, Dina stepped on the gas pedal and led Laura to escape to the next place. They finally arrived at a villa in Karangasem, Bali. Dina, who initially thought the location was uninhabited, was shocked when she heard Laura met Raqqa (Nicholas Saputra) on the beach.
As usual, Dina forbade Laura to see Raqqa. But Laura believes that Raqqa is a good person. In fact, even though Dina was forbidden to hang out with Raqqa, Laura still seemed to tease Raqqa. When Laura and Dina begin to enjoy their new life at the villa, trouble strikes again.

Even though it promises to be a thriller film, “Paranoia” is actually still unable to get rid of the dramatic and romantic style of Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza in the previous films. The fears and worries that had formed at the beginning of “Paranoia” slowly faded away and turned into a monotonous drama story.
When the cinema lights are turned off, Paranoia can actually amaze the audience and enhance the thriller’s mood with its dark and gloomy opening scene. The audience slowly faced the chaotic and uncertain conditions. This is how most people are feeling these days due to the difficult circumstances during the pandemic.
Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza are very good at packaging these chaotic feelings through the four main characters in this film, especially the role of Dina, played by Nirina Zubir. Dina’s endless anxiety filled almost an hour of paranoia. This scene is almost similar to the scene in the film “Enough” (2002), starring Jennifer Lopez.
