Israeli police attacked a reporter from Sky News Arabia on Sunday as he was covering a car crash attack in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Israeli police killed a Palestinian youth after he ran over four police officers at a checkpoint in Sheikh Jarrah, which has been the center of recent tensions.
Sky News Arabia crew who recorded at the scene said police attacked correspondent Firas Lutfi, and tried to damage their camera.
“They beat me and tried to break the camera to prevent us from covering,” said Lutfi, adding crews could send live pictures of the incident and complete the coverage.
Not long after, police officers were seen pushing Luthfi roughly and one of the officers tried to block the camera with his hand.
Israeli police said four officers were injured in the attack and the neighborhood had been cordoned off.
Clashes erupted in the area between Palestinians and Israeli troops last month after Israel planned to expel the family
Palestinians living in Sheikh Jarrah to make way for Israeli settlers. The protests spread to the Al-Aqsa mosque and sparked firefights between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
