Install Ubuntu Cleaner To Remove Junk Files in Ubuntu

One of the things that most of us as computer users still often forget or ignore is deleting junk files or files junk regularly. There are even some people who don’t even know that those junk files are on their computer.

Ubuntu Cleaner is actually a new version of Computer Janitor from Ubuntu Tweak. However, as you already know Ubuntu Tweak is no longer being developed, so users developer pulled out the Computer Janitor module from Ubuntu Tweak for later development and renamed Ubuntu Cleaner.

Ubuntu Cleaner can be used on Linux distributions with Ubuntu systems. So, apart from Ubuntu, Ubuntu Cleaner can also be used on Linux distributions derived from Ubuntu such as Linux Mint, ElementaryOS and so on.

Using Ubuntu Cleaner you can delete the following junk files:

  1. cache Application
  2. cache Browser
  3. cache Thumbnails
  4. cache apt
  5. File configurations on packages
  6. Deprecated old kernel.

Install Ubuntu Cleaner To Remove Junk Files in Ubuntu

To install Ubuntu Cleaner on an LTS version of Ubuntu, either Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, open Terminal by pressing shortcuts Ctrl + Alt + T on keyboard or through the application menu.

Then type the following command in Terminal to add repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gerardpuig/ppa

Then do an update to add a list repository and list package.

sudo apt-get update

Once done, install Ubuntu Cleaner by typing the following command:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-cleaner

For other versions of Ubuntu, or Ubuntu derivatives such as Linux Mint, ElementaryOS and others. You can download the ‘.deb’ installation file from Ubuntu Cleaner.

Type or paste the following command into Terminal to download the file:

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/l114qark0lc26k1/ubuntu-cleaner_1.0.0-1_all.deb

Then install Ubuntu Cleaner manually with the following command:

sudo dpkg -i ubuntu-cleaner_1.0.0-1_all.deb
sudo apt install -f

After the installation process is complete. You can open Ubuntu Cleaner from the Ubuntu Dash or Application Menu.

To check files junk that is on your computer, check the menu sidebar which is on the left to select the type of junk or junk file you want to check, and see what size the junk file is as in the following image.

If you want to delete these junk files, check each file type in the application’s main menu, then select ‘Clean’ to delete files junk is like the following picture.
