How to share folders
Setting up Network Sharing

Before sharing folders is done, the Network sharing on the computer must be set first. The steps are as follows:

  • Open Control Panel on your Windows computer
  • Select Network and Sharing Center
  • On the left of the screen there is an inscription so click “Change advanced sharing settings”
  • In the “Advanced sharing settings” window, there are two profiles “Home or Work” and “Public” is what you are looking for. How to find out how? You only see the profile that is written in Current Profile.

For this section and step, there are several categories of settings that will be presented to you, as follows:

  • Network Discovery. When the computer is turned on, computers connected to a network will look for other devices connected to the same network as well. This option is useful for setting whether other computers can or not find your computer.
  • File and Printer Sharing. This setting must be enabled if you want to share folders between computers.
  • Public Folder Settings. When this setting is active, you can share folders via the public folder on your computer with other computers. This setting is also used by all computers connected to the network you are using. But that must be noted, this setting should not be active on a public network, it should only be active if it is on a network in the office or home.
  • Streaming Media. Multimedia files such as videos, pictures or music can be accessed with this setting by using the Windows Media Player software. The settings are changed by clicking “Choose media streaming options…”.
  • File Sharing Connection, a useful setting for encryption of connections on the currently active network. Windows by default has 128-bit encryption set up. If your network group uses 40 or 56-bit encryption, it is better to select “… that use 40 or 56-vit encryption”.
  • Password protected sharing, this setting requires the person who will access the document or file that you have shared to have a username and password, because both are on the computer.
  • Homegroup Connection, By default, Windows has set the Homegroup to have the same password for each computer that has joined. But if it’s for security, it is not recommended. For that, select Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections.

When the computer is connected to a network, then sharing folders is very useful, be it documents, printer device files or folders.

The most important thing is sharing folders or files because you no longer use a flash or other storage media if you want to share.

But before you will do sharing folders, it’s a good idea to check the necessary devices such as computers and LAN networks of course.
