How to Fix Sound or Lost Sound on Fedora Linux

Fedora is a distribution of the old and widely used GNU/Linux operating system, including in Indonesia. In Indonesia itself, there are already many forums and groups for Fedora Linux users or lovers on social media and social media website forum.

Fedora is a derivative of Redhat, which uses the Redhat Packages Manager (RPM) to manage applications on the operating system. Like Redhat, Fedora comes from the land of Uncle Sam, the United States.

In some distributions of the GNU/Linux operating system, one of the problems or errors that often appears is the sound problem, and the Fedora distribution is no exception. Usually the problem appears when Fedora is first used after it is installed or also when a new system is finished upgrade.

There are many reasons why sound is missing, including hardware mismatch with the driversthe system that error, problem with volume configuration, and muted volume. In this article we discuss how to fix the missing sound issue on Fedora.

How to Fix Missing Sound on Fedora Linux

We will fix the missing sound by setting up the Sound Card and adjusting the volume settings in Alsamixer.

Alsamixer is an app audio mixer in shell Linux, which is useful for managing Sound Card and volume settings and others.

Open a terminal on the Fedora desktop via the applications menu. Then log in as user root or superuser in order to have full access rights to change the system by typing the command below:

su

insert user password who has access rights root the. To open the Alsamixer application, type alsamixer in Terminal as follows:

Then open Alsamixer with a display like the image below.

Press the button F6 on the keyboard to select the Sound Card on the device being used. Then three options will appear as shown in the image below, select the second option (HDA Intel PCH), and press Enter.

Then all the menus and sound settings will appear on the Sound Card.

Increase the volume setting on each menu by pressing the button Up Arrow until the volume is to your liking. Press the button Left Arrow or Right to move to another menu.

The menus have indicators, if the indicator reads “MM” it means in volume in condition mute (silence). Because mute this is usually what causes the device to be unable to produce sound. For unmute or turn on the sound, press the button M on the keyboard in each menu until the indicator changes to “O” like in the image below.

When the sound settings are complete, press the button ESC on the keyboard to exit the Alsamixer application.

Then try to see if the missing sound problem has been resolved and the sound has been heard. If you still don’t hear it, try restarting your Fedora first. Good Luck!
