With the applications mentioned above, of course you can also do this crop and resize picture. But as an application for advanced purposes that has many features, you will find it a little difficult to use it only for simple purposes such as doing crop and resize picture.

For simple image processing purposes such as just cropping (crop) and resize image, you don’t need to use advanced applications, you can use simple applications like Gthumb which is simpler, making it easier for you to use it.

What is Gthumb?

Gthumb is an image viewer application (image viewer) which allows users to display images with various capabilities such as slideshow and group images.

Apart from being an image viewer, Gthumb also includes several tools that can be used to perform image processing and manipulation for simple purposes.

Gthumb has the ability to perform simple image processing and manipulation such as adjusting the brightness, saturation, contrast, color, and lightening of the image, which is also equipped with several effects that can be applied to the image.

Then Gthumb also has the ability to remove the red effect on the eyes due to light, doing rotate or change the position of the image, and can crop (crop) and resize picture.

Install Gthumb on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Other Ubuntu Derivatives.

If you are a user of Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Derivatives from other Ubuntu distributions. You can install Gthumb which is already available on official repository Ubuntu.

Open Terminal via the application menu or by pressing the keyboard combination CTRL+ALT+T.

Before installing Gthumb from official repository Ubuntu, do updates first so that the application list can be updated, update it by entering the following command in Terminal:

sudo apt-get update

Wait for the process updates until finished. After process updates done, you can install Gthumb on your Linux by entering the following command in Terminal:

sudo apt-get install gthumb.

Wait for the Gthumb application installation process to complete. Make sure the installation of the Gthumb application is complete and there are no errors during the installation process.

How to Crop and Resize Images Using Gthumb

To cut (crop) and resize image size. You have to open the image you want to process first.

Find the image you want to process, right click on the image and select the option openwith, then on the sub menu Open Withselect Gthumb to open the image using the Gthumb application.

Or you can also open the Gthumb application via the application menu. Open the application menu or the Ubuntu Dash (if you are using Ubuntu), then find and open the Gthumb application.

Once the Gthumb application is open, then browse folder from files image that you want to process using Gthumb. After finding the image you want to work with, click on the image and then the image will open.

To do resize or resize the image. select icon or a box with a two-way arrow in the Format at the very bottom of the application.

Then you can do resize or resize the image by increasing or decreasing the width (witdh) and high (height) the image according to the size you want in the menu on the right side of the application.

You can set the image size in units pixels or with units of percent, which is how many percent of the original image. After finished doing resize, select Accept at the top of the application to apply the changes that have been made.

You can crop an image by creating and dragging a box shadow over the part of the image that you want to crop or remove. Then you can set the size of the image to be cropped by setting the width (witdh) and high (height) on the right side of the application, or you can also enlarge and reduce the size of the shadow box (section selection crop) by pulling one of the four outer sides of the box.

Then you can move the shadow box by click (hold) and move the box to the part of the image you want to crop. You can also choose the ratio of the image you want tocrop on the menu Aspect Ratio, you can choose the box ratio (square)4:3, 16:10 and so on.

When finished selecting the part you want to cut or croppedselect Accept at the top of the app to crop the image as you wish and to apply the changes that have been made.

Save the Processed Image

After successfully processing the image according to what you want. Don’t forget to save the image by pressing the keyboard combination CTRL + S.
