Understand How to Secure Old Cars That Are Now Targeted by Thieves – The cars produced in 1990 did not escape the theft. Auto parts are stripped and marketed on the black market to users in need. As happened in Jepara, Central Java.

The local police managed to apprehend a gang of old car specialist thieves. This gang of thieves is known to have targeted Toyota Kijang produced in 1990-1995. This case can be used as an example for you to introspect and improve the safety lock of your favorite old car. The high case of old car theft can be motivated by various factors.

First, because the owner is too indifferent because he feels his car will not be stolen. Another factor is that the average old car is not equipped with security, such as the immobilizer feature in the latest cars.

Section Head at the National Technical Leader section of Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Nurkholis said to prevent theft of old cars, first of all, the owner must always make sure the parking location is safe.

Then, before leaving the car after parking, make sure all doors and windows are completely closed.

“Then before leaving the vehicle, check once again that the doors and windows are perfectly locked, I’m afraid something is not locked, it’s an old car,” said Nurkholis.

He also said that the doors and windows should not be left problematic or damaged. Make sure these parts work perfectly even though he is not young anymore.

“Also make sure all door and window locks are functioning properly, if any are damaged, replace them immediately,” he said.

He said the owner must also ensure that the car keys are never duplicated by others. If in doubt or if the key has ever been lost, you should replace it as a whole or as a set.

The head of the Daihatsu Workshop, Prince Jayakarta, Dolf Valentino, added that old cars at this time should also be filled with modern security devices to complicate the theft.

“Install alarms and diagonal sensors in the cab. People often install alarms only sensors, the diagonal is not installed. So, when a thief breaks the glass to take things or the car doesn’t sound like a siren, it’s awkward. Then if a thief opens through the door with door alarm technology, the siren will certainly turn on,” said Dolf.

Dolf reminded that even old car owners should not leave personal items in the cabin as an effort to prevent crime. It is also recommended that the windshield of your old car be coated with a dark window film to protect the privacy inside.
