UFC Await Return of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jon Jones – UFC president Dana White says Jon Jones is ready to return for next year’s promo. The former Light Heavyweight king has not set foot in the Octagon since his unanimous victory over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February.
Jones’ absence from the octagon was partly due to conflicts with UFC officials over his long-awaited move to Heavyweight. Tomorrow’s Hall-of-Famer – who vacated the winner’s crown in June – wants to be compensated for the ideal weight gain.
White, however, refuses to budge and admits the 33-year-old wants to be paid in proportion. The two factions recently discussed their problems in a phone call, leading White to believe ‘Bones’ will return to the Octagon next year.
He explained to BT Sport: “Jon Jones and I had the greatest conversation we’ve had over the past week, and he’s ready to come back. His head is in the right place, and he and I are in a very good place.”
The UFC hopes to take on Jones with Israeli Middleweight champion Adesanya. With that said, the latter can win the proposed Light Heavyweight title battle against Jan Blachowicz.
White really wanted to make the battle and admitted that it was one of the contests he most wanted to do next year. He spoke: “That was the battle I wanted to see. One asked me the other day, ‘if you could make one battle in 2022, what would it be?’ That’s my option. ”
Except for Jones, White awaits the return of UFC Lightweight King Khabib Nurmagomedov. White and Khabib will meet to discuss the idea of the Eagle returning to the octagon next year. The idea is that Khabib and White met during Conor McGregor’s battle against Dustin Poirier. The rematch will be held January 23 in Abu Dhabi.
