Tiktok is safer for young users to use after releasing the latest update – TikTok has brought up the latest privacy settings for users under the age of 18. Quoted from GSM Arena (14/1), users under the age of 18 will now be switched to a Private account by default, not Public. Meanwhile, videos of users between the ages of 13 and 15 cannot be downloaded and used for the Duet or Stitch feature.
Then 16 and 17 year olds can duet and edit their videos, but the default feature for this will be changed to Partner but can be reversed via the Settings menu. This biggest overhaul of course will affect young users, both existing accounts or those who have just registered.
It was found that users would receive a statement regarding the revamp, which the company said was “aimed at driving higher default standards for user privacy and security”. While this new setup doesn’t solve all the problems, it does add a bit of ground on which TikTok can be built. The reason is the company admits they are doing something for their user base with this new enhancement, protecting child users from contacting people they don’t know.
TikTok has announced a partnership with Common Sense Networks, a media company focused on creating and curating age-appropriate and engaging media experiences for children and families. We found this collaboration useful to provide additional tutorials on the suitability of the content for users under 13 years of age.
