You all might use the Volume buttons while playing music to adjust the sound, but what if the same buttons could actually change the track as well. Yes, it is possible, thanks to the hidden APIs released with Android Oreo 8.1. The API, known as a volume key long-press listener, makes it possible to skip track tracks with just a long press of the Volume Key.
Taking a cue from this API is an app that goes by the name Skip Track. It lets you skip songs even when your screen display is turned off. So now you can easily change or skip song tracks via Volume buttons while your device is kept in your pocket.
So without further ado, here’s how to skip songs using the Volume buttons on Android
Skip (skip) Songs using Volume buttons on Android
To perform the Skip track process using Volume buttons, you must have the Skip Track application on your device. After installing it, you have to grant the required permissions via ADB Commands. And for that, you have to enable USB Debugging on your device. All described below.
Required tools:
- Download Android SDK and Platform Tools on your PC. Make sure to remember the location where you installed it.
- Download and install the app Skip Track from Github. (Thanks to XDA member Cilenco for this app).
- Enable USB Debugging on your device: Go to Arrangement> System> About phone> Tap Build Number 7 times. This will enable Developer options. Under that section, enable the USB Debugging switch.
So these are all that I mentioned above are tools or requirements in the steps to skip songs on Android devices using Volume buttons. Now proceed to the instructions given below.
ADB Licensing

- Connect your device to PC via USB cable.
- Navigate to the platform-tools folder and type cmd in the address bar. This will open a Command Prompt.

Finally, give the app the required API permissions by running the command below. Make sure you have the Skip Track app installed before proceeding with this command. Otherwise, you will not be able to skip songs using Volume buttons in this app. Copy or type the following to grant API permissions to the app:

Alternative Skip (skip) Songs using Volume buttons on Android

If you don’t want to try Skip songs because it requires sideloading from Github, then there are other apps available on the Play Store. This app is Next Track, and it also requires similar ADB settings. Bro, you can download Next Track from here.
The steps to skip songs using Volume buttons are almost identical, just replace the above ADB permission code with the one mentioned below:
Most of the features of this app require you to spend some money. If you don’t mind, then it’s worth a try. If not, you can use the first trick that we have explained above.
