First, let's discuss the design side with its distinctive character! , with a body that is quite large even though it carries a slim appendage with the exhaust protruding backwards with a size that is slightly smaller than the Lenovo Legion Pro that we have reviewed, maybe this is what slim means if we compare the slim compared to the Legion Pro or non-slim Legion , not the same as other gaming laptops.

Lenovo Legion Slim 5 review

Continuing, the unit we are reviewing is onyx gray in color with dimensions of 35.9 .

For main specifications, this laptop uses an AMD Ryzen 7 7849HS CPU, one of AMD's most modern CPUs with an 8 core 16 threads configuration with a boost clock up to 5.1GHz. paired with a full power RTX 4060 GPU with TGP up to 140W, how fast? it seems like! But later, check out the details in the performance section!

Display Quality Lenovo Legion Slim 5 2023

Let's move on! This laptop has a screen with dimensions of 16 inches, WQXGA 2560 x 1600p resolution or QHD+, some people call it an IPS panel with a brightness level of 300 nits, 165Hz which has also been coated with an anti-glare layer. The quality? Yes, it's good, the color accuracy is accurate, with good detail, the color gamut coverage is also wide, it's 100% sRGB.

Lenovo Legion Screen Quality

So for grading and editing needs, I think this laptop is capable too, not just gaming. Apart from that, with screen specs like this, I think this laptop is really comfortable for enjoying visual quality AAA games like Hogwarts Legacy, which looks really real if your laptop screen is good, another term if I'm not mistaken is “Immersive” okay?

The keyboard layout is full size and is equipped with RGB Backlit 4 zones. Using it for playing games feels quite comfortable, with a slightly clicky feel, so it feels like there's feedback, even though it's slight, what's more interesting is that there are already macro key settings that you can customize via Lenovo Vantage. The touchpad is wide, but honestly it feels just standard for a Legion gaming laptop.

Connectivity and I/O Ports

Go to another section, there seem to be a lot of I/O ports, basically complete, starting from the usual USB Type A, Type C 3.2 gen 2, HDMI is also 2.1 which supports display output up to 8K 60Hz even though very few people will use 8K Yes, but at least if you need it you can, there is also a combo audio jack, and an RJ45 LAN port, which is a bit of a shame there isn't USB 4 here yet!

Connectivity, as usual, uses the latest WiFi 6e, plus Bluetooth 5.3 which is already fast in use.

Storage and Upgradability

This laptop's storage uses an NVMe gen 4 SSD, of course, which has become the standard for contemporary gaming laptops, with fast speeds of 7000 MBps for reading and 5000 MBps for writing. The capacity is 512GB which you can still upgrade because 1 empty NVMe SSD slot is provided.

RAM, using 16GB 5600MHz, which I think is enough for gaming needs, or just daily use, feel like using multitasking, opening and closing apps, I feel it's safe, not just comfortable.

CPU Performance

Moving on to the main point, performance, the first thing is the CPU, which uses AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS. First of course, we carry out a stress test on this laptop using Cinebench R23 which is looped 10X consecutively with an ambient temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.

Legion Slim 5 2023 CPU Performance Consistency

The maximum point is 16248 pts, with an avg of 16135, the deviation is very small, only 0.6%, as small as that is, your hope is that your crush, whose status has been 100 years, is still friends! In terms of score, the position is quite competitive, yes, the position is at the same level as the Razer Blade 18 which uses the i7 13800H which is much more expensive, and the improvement is quite noticeable when compared to the 6800HS.

Ryzen 7 6800HS vs Intel Core i7 13800H vs Ryzen 7 7840HS

During the stress test, I tried running this laptop in performance pick mode, which means at some point the turbo boost starts and automatically makes the laptop's CPU run at 100W++, the CPU temperature does seem high for some people, it can go up to 92 degrees Celsius, but still, it doesn't reach the T Junction's max, which is in the 100s degrees Celsius.

Legion Slim 5 2023 Testing Temperature

So, if you look at it from here, the temperature when the performance is selected is still safe to handle with this laptop's cooling system, and after a few minutes, at least 5-10 minutes at the most when the stress test is finished, it drops too, not that you have to wait until then. centuries like that so that the temperature is cool.

Gaming Benchmarks Lenovo Legion Slim 5 2023

And of course, we also don't forget the gaming test on this laptop. First, let's test using games that I like, because of the gameplay and graphics quality, namely Hogwarts Legacy, Ultra, Native, DLSS On, Ray Tracing On gets 80 fps average, Forza Horizon Extreme setting, native gets 94 fps AVG, SOTR right average. Yes, basically native gets up to 80 fps, Red Dead Redemption Ultra too, DLSS Quality 68 an FPS.

Gaming Test Lenovo Legion Slim 5

And for competitive gaming like Dota 2, is there anyone still playing here? Oh, the rear of the camera is pointed, it can get 190 fps, Valorant is very low, wow, it spills until 500 fps can be touched! Soo for gaming, that's enough, in my opinion, it's fast, bro!

Battery Life

Finally, to the battery test, technically this laptop is supported by an 80 WHRs battery which when tested using PCMark10 battery saver scenario, WiFi on was able to last up to around 3 hours 38 minutes while if the test scenario was 1080P video playback, it got around 9 hours, great Also, for a gaming laptop whose specs could be said to be a bit heavy.

Coming to the final section, namely the conclusion, is this laptop the best laptop in the 23 million price range? If you can say it's the best, maybe not yet, but maybe this could be an interesting gaming laptop option at that price, why? because first of all, the brand image, built quality, and comfort of the guarantee of this laptop is honestly one of the really good ones.

Legion is the name, with TOP built quality, and has extensive warranty coverage, ADP is one of the attractive selling points of this laptop. On the other hand, the CPU doesn't really look that great in its price class, but it turns out to be fast, stable, and has consistently good performance, thanks to the support of a proper cooling system.

The gaming performance is also very safe, AAA gaming is capable of playing at native resolution. The only thing that is a bit unfortunate for me is that there is no USB 4 on this laptop, which should be a standard port for medium to high-end gaming laptops in 2023. Maybe the next generation will have USB 4 or maybe another SKU will use Ryzen 9 later. Well, we don't know yet.

OK, maybe that's the end of this review of the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 for now, don't forget to like share as a form of support and encouragement for us. Keep visiting pemmzchannel.com to see technological developments, especially in the IT sector. Byee!
