This article discusses how to add emoji on Discord and how to use those emojis and some of the different things you can do with them. Discord is more than just VoIP for gamers in the midst of an epic raid or battle royale. It is a service that allows server owners to track all of their members and provide a place for those members to mingle verbally and text.
This means more and more conversations going on, not just about playing games but also a list of various topics to choose from. Anyone who has used any form of social media over the last few years will tell you, it’s all about memes.
Don’t let your memes be dreams
That’s one of the things Discord wants you to keep in mind when using their service. However, you can’t follow up on a good meme without releasing some well-placed emojis to let others know how you feel. So Discord moved ahead and implemented a system to track all your emojis in one easily accessible place.
This article will walk you through how to use those emojis as well as some of the different things you can do with them.
Adding & Using Emojis On Discord
The way to add emoji to a Discord conversation is quite simple. Hover over the gray emoji to the right side of your text bar:

It will change from gray to colorful as it hovers. Click on the emoji icon to pull up the list of available emojis right there at your fingertips. If you want to drop more than one, you can hold down Shift key while clicking. Very useful for those who want to shoot some crybaby or other emoji to let someone know what you think about their post or message.
Wumboji
Wumboji is an emoji that has been given a bit of room to grow. By dropping any text and dropping a single emoji as a message instead, it explodes in size for all to see. You are limited to 27 wumboji in a single message before density becomes an issue and the size is reduced back to its original state.
When in Compact mode, emoji cannot be wumbojis. This makes sense seeing that the compressed wumboji is already an emoji.
Emoji Custom Servers
You can also easily add custom emojis to your server. You can also sync with some of your favorite streamers to use their emojis too.
If you subscribe to a Twitch streamer who has their own custom emoji enabled for their channel, you can use them on your server. All you need to do is sync your Twitch account with Discord. It allows you to use their custom emoji on any server you decide to join. Amazing huh?
Of course, you can always upload your own custom emoji which is explicitly customized for your server to use. To do this, you must:
1. Open tab “Server SettingsYou do this by clicking on the server name and selecting the tab from the drop-down options provided.

2. Once there, you will find the Emoji tab. Click it to open the Emoji Server dialog.

This is where you will be greeted with the text “Don’t let your memes be dreams” which I talked about at the beginning of the article. As long as you are the owner of the server or have been granted permission to manage the required Emojis, you will have full access to the Emoji tab.

From here, click on the Upload button and you can upload your personal emoji stash to the server.
You are limited to 50 emoji uploads per server and those custom emojis will only work for servers that have already been uploaded. If you try to use an emoji uploaded to another server, you will be greeted with a message from Clyde:

The first one is for when you try to type an emoji with the last received name and message if it is selected from the picker list. You might notice that some servers will show both gray emojis as well as universal ones. Keep in mind that manually uploaded emojis are server-specific but integrated ones are not. This includes any emoji that you sync via Twitch.
Emoji size is changed to 32×32 pixels and uploads must not exceed 128×128 pixels for optimal resolution. The emoji list is automatically sorted for custom emojis by server so that you will have no trouble finding the emoji you are looking for.
React to Messages With Emoji
Sometimes less is more in terms of message response. Often times you can make a better show of emotional support by choosing a reaction as opposed to manually placed words or emojis. Discord gives you the option for quick response via the “Add Reactions” button.
To use a reaction, click the + smiley to the right of the message. It will be located next to the menu icon.

Just a click and you will be given full emotes which you can choose to speed up your response.
If one reaction is not enough, you can add more as the “Add Reactions” button will now be located to the right of your current reaction.

Similarly to the rapid-fire treatment above, you can hold down the Shift key while selecting emotes to keep the window open.
You also have the option to delete Reaction if you want. Just click on the Reaction sent box and it will be gone. Your most commonly used Emojis are also saved for quick reaction purpose. Right click the message you want to react and all your favorites are there for ease of use.
Added Emoji to Channel Descriptions & Nicknames
Maybe you want to add some emoji to some of your channels or even your nickname. The process is rather easy and there are two ways I know how to do it. A more technical way is to type the full ID name of the emoji ( :emojiname:) directly.
An example would be typing :flame: to generate the emoji.
It is a language known as Unicode. Most emoji users are probably unfamiliar with Unicode. So for them, there is a simpler copy and paste option. There are several online sites that you can choose from that can help you find all the emojis that you need. I usually choose to use the site getemoji.com. You can also learn a bit about Unicode by using http://www.unicode.org/emoji/charts/full-emoji-list.html if you want.
From this site, all you need to do is find the emoji you want to use, highlight it, right click it and select copy. Then paste it into Discord wherever you need it. If you are using a unicode site, when selecting an emoji to use, make sure you copy it from the Browser column.

That’s how to add emoji on Discord, hopefully this article is useful for those of you who need it, finally, thank you for visiting and don’t forget to share it on your social media, okay?
