During Christmas 2022 Telkomsel Records an Increase in Data Payload – Telkomsel wrote that there was an increase in residents’ routines for data services during the 2022 Christmas celebration. The increase was 7.77% compared to normal days or grew by around 45.98% compared to the same event last year.
Based on legal information received, Monday (12/28/2022), there are five provincial regions that experienced the highest increase in data payload traffic, namely Central Java, North Sumatra, East Java, Sulawesi and South Sumatra.
For data/digital service payloads, the increase in traffic was driven by an increase in searching access services which rose to 14.4%. Then followed by video streaming services which rose to 9.12%, as well as social media services which rose by 7.85%.
“Service communications (such as instant messaging and video conferencing services) increased by 6.26% and service programs/websites for online mediums also increased by 4.61%,” said Telkomsel VP of Corporate Communications, Denny Abidin.
However, mobile game services fell by around -1.2% and access to e-commerce services fell by -5.03%. The reduction took place in voice service communication traffic by -8.6% and SMS by -10.16%, compared to normal days.
“During the Christmas 2022 to New Year 2022 celebrations, Telkomsel has taken several anticipatory measures by optimizing the network, especially on broadband connections, at 550 points of interest (POI) spread throughout Indonesia,” Denny continued.
Therefore, Telkomsel has implemented an additional 587 new 4G LTE BTS and 69 units of Compact Mobile BTS (COMBAT). In addition, there is also an increase in the ability of the internet gateway to 6,880 Gbps to ensure smooth access to data service for loyal customers.
On the other hand, Telkomsel will test and apply the Open RAN (Radio Access Network) technology to improve the quality and ability of internet services that are evenly distributed throughout Indonesia.
Open RAN technology is a radio access device technology with a general purpose idea, neutral hardware supplier, software-defined, and open system.
With this idea, hardware and software elements besides radio can be divided so that the hardware and software used can start from various suppliers who apply the idea of an open system interface.
Director of Network Telkomsel Hendri Mulya Syam said, in these years, the traffic of internet usage by Indonesian citizens has grown significantly.
According to him, this development is driven by the high use of digital services to provide support for daily routines.
“To ensure the ability and quality of the network is perfect and provides convenience, except for widening access to the availability of broadband networks, Telkomsel is driving the growth of options and the latest technology solutions,” said Hendri, in a statement received by Telkomsel.
Telkomsel, according to Hendri, saw that Open RAN had the opportunity to be applied in office areas or rural areas with its system, level of effectiveness, and other complications.
He hopes that the experiment and the implications of Open RAN can accelerate the delivery of even and quality broadband access.
Open RAN technology is seen as more and more capable of supporting the adoption of the latest 5G technology which will soon come in the country. Telkomsel itself said, the 5G roadmap will continue to be driven by adjusting changes in the technology of sympathizers.
As a form of sincerity and mobilizing Open RAN technology, Telkomsel and Indonesian mobile network operators together with relevant stakeholders such as GSMA, Telecom Infra Project, Kemkominfo and Telkom University collaborated to create a Community Lab Project to introduce and create an ecosystem for improving this technology.
Telkomsel recently supported the ratification of the TIP Community Lab which was regulated by Telkom University.
This lab is the first place to improve telecommunications technology in Southeast Asia. Its presence is a form of advancing digital development and the Indonesian economy through testing and validation based on open network technology standards.
“The presence of the Project Community Lab Team will help produce appropriate tests of technology that are validated before being confirmed that they can be applied in real terms,” said Hendri.
