Detect Lung Cancer Early and Recognize the Cause

Detect Lung Cancer Early and Recognize the Cause – Pulmonary specialist Kasum Supriadi said, a bad lifestyle such as eating junk food, smoking, consuming excessive alcohol and being overweight can trigger cancer. In addition to lifestyle, gene changes or DNA mutations related to heredity also need to be watched out for.

According to Kasum, if a member of your family is diagnosed with lung cancer, other family members should undergo early and periodic examinations to detect cancer symptoms as early as possible.

“There is a series of processes to detect lung cancer, namely history taking (interviewing patients), physical examination, and supporting examinations which include sputum examination and lung tissue biopsy, chest X-ray, CT scan of the lungs with contrast agent, bronchoscopy or endoscopy of the lungs.”

Kasum said the diagnosis of lung cancer is one of them if there are tumor cells that can be found in the respiratory tract, lung parenchyma, or in the lung wrapping. “If from a series of examination processes it is found that the patient has lung cancer, the lung doctor will determine the appropriate medical action,” he said.

If the diagnosis is established, Kasum advises the family to ensure the patient’s oxygen supply by monitoring vital signs of respiration, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and oxygen saturation. If you see a decrease in changes, then immediately consult a doctor to determine whether the patient needs to receive intensive care in the hospital or not.

Kasum said, stage 4 lung cancer patients have a rapid rate of progression or advanced stage. They are reported to have died on average in less than six months due to infection.

In order to prevent progression and reduce the prevalence of lung cancer, he invites the public to increase health literacy about lung cancer. Literacy includes knowing the symptoms even though not all cancers show early symptoms, the stages of healing, to how to treat cancer patients to help the healing process.

On the other hand, Dr. Yosef Fransiscus invites people to adopt a healthy lifestyle every day as an effort to fight cancer. “We can achieve tomorrow if we are physically and financially healthy. For that, it is very good if we start doing a healthy lifestyle, namely improving intake with nutritious and regular exercise. It is also necessary to balance the time between work and rest and have a positive and open mindset,” said Yosef.

He also recommends that you equip yourself with health insurance as part of your financial protection to stay healthy. This insurance, he said, could play a role in replacing medical expenses whose value is in accordance with the agreement stated on the policy.

In Indonesia, data from the Global Burden of Cancer Study (GLOBOCAN) in 2022 reported that around 26,069 people died from lung cancer each year, with 30,023 new cases. This figure is the highest or reached 19.3 percent compared to the total death from all other cancers.
