Chili Prices Rise To 150,000 Rupiah

The price of chili rose to 150,000 rupiah per kilogram, more expensive than the usual price of beef at 120 thousand rupiah per kilogram.

The price of chili rose to 150,000 rupiah. This was said by one of the vegetable traders at Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta named Koyah. However, he revealed that now the price has dropped to Rp. 120,000 per kilogram.

Head of the Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) of Tangerang City, Eni Nuraeni, explained that the price of cayenne pepper is between Rp. 120,000 to Rp. 150,000 per kg in several markets based on inspections from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Eni explained that the price of chili rose because farmers were unable to harvest because of the uncertain weather. “The harvest may not work. After the rain, the heat continues, the rain keeps falling,” said Eni by telephone, Wednesday night (10/3/2022) night.

“Now I sell Rp 120 thousand per kilogram. It has gone down, last week it was Rp 150 thousand per kilo,” said Koyah, when met by detikcom at Sunday Market, Wednesday (10/3/2022).

Koyah suspects that the increase in chili prices is due to weather factors. He said, due to the price increase, the stock he bought online was reduced.

“At first, I bought 10 kilos, now I just bought 5 kilos, this is because of the rich weather. Since corona too,” he continued.

In a different place, the price of red cayenne pepper was also said to have increased by Rp 150 thousand per kilogram. That was said by one of the spice traders at Pasar Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.

“This has now dropped to Rp 120 thousand per kilogram, previously it was Rp 150 thousand,” said a spice trader named Hadi

How come the price of chili can penetrate Rp. 150 thousand?

He also said that due to the increase in the price, the stock he bought from the Kramatjati Main Market was reduced from 20 kilograms per day to 5 kilograms.

“Now I’m going to drop off my purchases at Kramatjati, it used to be 20 kilos, so it’s decreased 3 times, just 5 kilos. Buyers also buy less, food stalls previously bought 1 kilo, so it’s 1/2 kilo,” said Hadi.
