Canelo Injures Callum Smith’s Left Arm – Callum Smith has yet to accept the fact that he lost by accusing Saul Canelo Alvarez of intentionally injuring his left arm in a Super Middleweight battle. Smith had to pass his WBA Super Intermediate belt to Canelo after suffering a crushing defeat to the four-weight world champions at Texas’s Aladome Stadium.
After the battle, boxing fans saw Smith develop a large swelling in his left arm. The injury appears to have been due to the 30-year-old hitting a few right hooks. He views Canelo’s game strategy as targeting his left arm, explaining to Boxing Social: “It was intentional. I know from that first round.
According to The Athletic, the bulge in Smith’s left forearm is the result of a triceps injury – which is undergoing surgery. “I said to Joe (Gallagher) in the first round, ‘He’s aiming for my arm.’ Every right hook he freed he’d slay my arm.’ And then I thought I was talking to Joe in round four or something, ‘My arm is chronic.’
He added: “It’s like taking my left hand, which is called my greatest shot. And what was the idea on their behalf, it was a success.” “In the twelfth round, he saw the bruises and laughed and asked, ‘Does it hurt?’ It’s an experience in his name. It’s really a tool that is probably my greatest opportunity.”
While Smith is frustrated by his inability to make use of his unique punch, he makes it clear the battle doesn’t go his way if he isn’t injured.” He spoke: “That’s not a fact. If I have two hands as far as the battle goes, will I win the battle? Probably not. He was a little too kind to me that night. ”
