The NPO then changed its name to Nederlands Indische Padvinders Vereniging (NIVP) in 1916, in the same year Mangkunegara VII formed Indonesia’s first Scout Organization called the Javaansche Padvinder Organisatie (JPO).

Therefore, KH Agus Salim introduced the term “Pandu” or “Scouting” for Indonesian Scouting organizations. After independence, a national scouting was born, namely Pandu Rakyat Indonesia on December 28, 1945.
In the course of its history, hundreds of scouting organizations were divided into several federations and PERKINDO (Indonesian Scout Association) was formed. This organization is constrained by the lack of cohesiveness among its members.
In 1960 the government and MPRS attempted to regulate scouting organizations in Indonesia. On March 9, 1961, President Sukarno brought together figures from the Indonesian scouting movement.
He explained, the scouting organization must be improved and all scouting will be united into one with the name Scouts. On this occasion the President formed a committee for the formation of the Scout movement consisting of Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX, Prof. Prijono. Dr. A. Aziz Saleh and Achmadi.
This event became known as the Scout Movement Day. The committee formulated the results of the work and approved Presidential Decree No. 238 of 1961 on May 20, 1961 regarding the Scout movement.
On July 30, 1961 at Istora Senayan, Indonesian scouting figures declared to join the Scouts (Pledge Day of the Scout Movement).
Scout Birthday was then commemorated on August 14, 1961 when MAPINAS (National Leadership Council) chaired by President Sukarno, deputy chairman I Sultan HB IX and deputy chairman II Brigadier General Dr. A. Aziz Saleh. Sukarno handed Scouting banners to figures to introduce Scouts to the public.

The National Scout Movement Quarter has issued Decree Number 027 of 2022 concerning the Logo of the 60 (Sixty) Years of the Scout Movement last February. In the decree, the logo and theme of Scout Day, which is commemorated August 14th, was decided.
The Scout Movement in 2022 will be 60 (sixty) years old since the issuance of Presidential Decree Number 238 of 1961 concerning the Scout Movement.
The Logo of the 60th Anniversary of the Scout Movement has the following meanings:
- The red color means brave and chivalrous, while white means willing and sincere in service.
- The number 60 symbolizes the 60th year of the Scout Movement, with the number “6” whose stems combine with palm leaves to show Scouts’ love for the homeland.
- The WOSM symbol in the middle of the number “0” indicates the Scout Movement as the only scouting organization in Indonesia and the only one recognized by world scouting organizations. In addition, in the logo for the 60th anniversary of the Scout Movement established by the Kwarnas, there is the motto “Devotion Without Stop,” which means that all members of the Scout Movement are always ready to serve at any time.
