www.rancakmedia.com – The Google Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on select devices starting June 15, 2022. Instead, Google announced that movies or TV shows purchased or rented through the Play Movies & TV service will still be available through the YouTube app, which also allows users to explore, buy, or rent new content.
The move, announced to users in emails and on the support page, is part of the transition to the Google TV experience. The software giant also mentioned that two LG streaming devices will lose access to the platform completely. There is currently no information on when the app will close on other devices such as smartphones and Android TV.
In a blog post last month, Google announced that the app will no longer be available on Roku, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs starting June 15. Google also mentioned that it will completely remove Google Play Movies & TV services from LG Netcast and LG SimpleSmart devices. It should also be noted that the app will not completely shut down on devices other than those mentioned above.
All purchases and rentals made in the app are available through your movies and show sections in the YouTube app on registered devices. Your watchlist is also not available on YouTube, but content can be added to a playlist.
Google also mentioned that Google Play Movies & TV credits will be transferable to YouTube. It also shows purchases in Play Family Library on YouTube. The latter doesn’t support family sharing, but purchases from the former still support family sharing. To learn more about where to view your content, click here.
