Google Meet extends unlimited video calling support for free Gmail accounts through June

www.rancakmedia.com – Google Meet has expanded support for free “unlimited” video calls (up to 24 hours) on its platform until June 2022. The new extension applies to all Gmail users who make video calls via Google Meet.

Prior to the latest development, Google Meet video calls were available to Gmail users for free until March 31, 2022. This extension was announced in September last year. With free 24-hour video calls via Google Meet, the search giant is trying to help people who are staying indoors amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The official Google Workspace account on Twitter has announced an update of “unlimited” Google Meet calls. First, in March it was decided to offer free “unlimited” video calls to support people working from home and taking distance education due to the pandemic.

At that time, Google provided premium features for Google Meet (formerly known as Hangouts) to all G Suite customers for free. This includes virtual meetings for up to 250 members, built-in live streaming, and the ability to save call recordings on Google Drive. That’s similar to competing platforms like Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex, which offer free support for video calls.

Google later announced that there would be a 60-minute limit on free virtual calls starting September 30. However, after that, the company decided to extend this period until March 31.

With the latest addition to Google Meet “Unlimited” Calls, you don’t have to pay a special fee to make virtual calls with your Gmail account free for up to 24 hours. You can connect to any of your contacts who have an internet connection with a Google Meet call.

Google Meet’s expanded support also lets you add up to 100 participants to each of your Google Meet calls, and participants don’t even need to have the Google Meet app available on their device to sign in. You can join your call from your web browser.

However, it’s important to note that the ability to add group participants for video calls for up to 24 hours will be available free of charge until June 28. One hour period applies to each group call. Alternatively, you can switch to a paid plan to get the same 24-hour group calling functionality.
