Instagram Profile Photo
If you notice, every Instagram user has a profile photo. The photo is a circle. However, you don’t need to turn your photo into a circle to make it a profile photo.
The aspect ratio of the Instagram profile photo size is 1:1 with a minimum pixel size of 110px x 110px. Although the size of the Instagram profile photo looks small, an image with a size below that will make your photo blurry.
If your original photo is square, then Instagram will automatically turn it into a circle. Although there will still be some parts of the photo that are cut off.
What if your profile photo ratio is not 1:1? You can cut out other parts or add a square background to make it a 1:1 ratio.

Instagram Square Post
When it was first launched, the Instagram app only had one post size, which is square. This size has a 1:1 ratio.
You can upload images with a size of 1080px x 1080 px to produce HD image quality. However, the size of 640px x 640px is still okay for standard image quality.
The size of this square post is also what you will see on someone’s Instagram profile. Where you will see a grid of 3 columns in the form of small boxes. So it’s no wonder, square post is still in demand by many people.
How to Make a Square Post?
If your original image doesn’t have a 1:1 ratio, there are several ways to make it square:
1. By cropping or cropping the image
If your original image is landscape or portrait, you can crop or crop the image into a square. Use the square 1:1 setting and adjust the image you want to crop. This method is indeed faster, but you will lose some of the image frames.
2. Fill in the blanks
If you don’t want to remove parts of your image, another way is to fill in the blanks. So, the image ratio is 1:1.

The latest update from Instagram now allows you to upload not only square photos, but also landscape photos. The ratio of this landscape photo is 1.91 : 1 or 1080 px x 608 px for HD photo sizes.
You don’t have to worry about this aspect ratio, because Instagram will automatically adjust your photo to that size.
How about videos? Are they the same size?
Instagram’s horizontal (landscape) video size is the same as photo size and ratio. If you don’t want it to be cropped, you’ll need to edit the size of the video first.

Instagram Portrait Post
Along with the landscape photo feature, Instagram is also updating the portrait photo feature. The aspect ratio of this portrait photo is 4 : 5 or 1080 px x 1350 px for HD photo quality.
Portrait view is preferred over landscape view because your photos will look bigger and fuller on the phone screen.
However, this landscape and portrait photo display will be square if you see it on the Instagram profile grid. You need to click to view the image in its original size.
Likewise with Instagram’s vertical video (portrait) size, you need to resize it first if you don’t want it to appear cropped. Another alternative is that you can upload IGTV to get a fuller view of the video.

Instagram Stories
Instagram story size by default is 1080px x 1920px or 9:16 ratio. Instagram strives to present content that can fill your mobile screen.
