The birth of the game Defense of The Ancient or better known as DOTA actually started with a game modification called Starcraft Blood War from a user, the modified map was named Aeon Of Strife (AOS).
In AOS, the player controls a character whose main goal is to destroy the core fortress of the enemy assisted by an army called “Creep” which is controlled by AI. From there, the MOBA genre game was born, this genre is a blend of Action, Real Time Strategy and Role Playing Game genres.
- The emergence of Warcraft 3 and the birth of Dota.
It doesn’t feel right to discuss the history of Dota 2 without discussing the history of Dota 1 first. In 2002, Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos was released by Blizzard Entertainment and had shocked the modders at the time. Modder is a game modifier. The Warcraft game engine is slicker than Starcraft and the modification tools are more flexible.
Then at that moment, a modder named Eul tried to remake AOS into the Warcraft ROC engine using the name Defense of The Ancients. And at that time, DOTA was still at the Alpha stage and there were only 5 players against 5 hero characters.

Eul who was trying to develop DOTA suddenly disappeared from the modder community. Then Guinsoo and Pendragon took the initiative to continue the development of the game project. Both of them modified Eul’s DOTA and then made their own version of DOTA which was titled DOTA: Allstars.
As the number of players grew, Guinsoo and Pendragon then invited Icefrog and Neichus to help them in the game’s development project. Starting from version 4.xx, it was continued to version 5.xx and only then did the competition begin when the version 5.84c v2 map appeared.
In the initial version, there is still a lot that has not been seen in this game. The appearance of Roshan’s character is only new on the 4.0a map version and several heroes such as Ursa Warrior, Tidehunter, Atropos, Tinker, Ogre Magi and so on have just begun to appear on the 5.xx version of the map.
