Fortnite Battle Royale Breaks 2 Million Simultaneous Player Record

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is a giant in the battle royale category, but Fortnite is quickly setting records. Epic Games reported today that the game now has 40 million players, and the number of concurrent users that peaked recently broke at two million.

Fortnite Battle Royale launched Early Access last September 2022, where it managed to scare away PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds developer Bluehole. Getting 800K players at launch and 6M early in a week, maybe you already know why.

Of course it’s not as easy to trust the numbers of Fortnite players as it is with most other games, because it’s not on Steam and so we can’t hit numbers whenever we feel like seeing how things go. And there are a few caveats that come with comparing it to PUBG: Epic doesn’t reveal how the numbers range between sandbox and battle royale modes, PUBG isn’t available on PS4, and Fortnite is free, which doesn’t hurt to pump up player counts. This is a remarkable achievement for a battle royale mode that has lasted less than four months.
