Install Cantata and MPD (Music Player Daemon) on Ubuntu as Music Player Applications
In Linux distributions, there are so many music player applications that you can choose to use, you will not be short of options if you want to choose a music player application for Linux that suits your needs.
You can choose a lightweight music player application, a feature-rich music player with powerful capabilities or a music player application that has a beautiful appearance according to your taste, you can even play music through the Terminal on Linux.
Among the many options that you can choose from, one of them is Cantata.
Cantata is a music player app client running on top of Qt and MPD (Music Player Daemon). Cantata is really just an app client which just becomes front-end or the graphical display (GUI) which functions to organize and organize playlists of songs, playlists and so on.
So therefore Cantata relies on MPD as music servers. To use Cantata, you must also install MPD (Music Player Daemon).
MPD is an app open source for player music servers. As the name suggests, MPD is a daemon or just a service running in the system background.
Apart from Cantanta there are many applications that can be used as front-end or client Music Player Daemon (MPD) on Linux, but Cantata is one of the best. Cantata has a great look, looks modern with interfaces simple and clean.
At first Cantata runs with dependencies from KDE, but since the Cantata version 1.4 until now, Cantata only relies on Qt and MPD (Music Player Daemon).
Cantata is an app open source and cross-platform. Besides being able to be used on the Linux operating system, Cantata can also be used on the Windows and OS X operating systems.
Install Cantata and MPD (Music Player Daemon) on Ubuntu
If you are a user of the Ubuntu distribution and its derivatives, you can install Cantata and MPD on your desktop using a PPA. repository.
Open Terminal by pressing the keyboard combination / shortcuts CTRL + ALT + T or open Terminal from the application menu on your Ubuntu.
Then enter the following command to add the PPA repository on your computer to install Cantata and MPD daemons. To make it easier, you cancopy the following command and then paste in Terminal by pressing the keyboard combination / shortcuts CTRL+SHIFT+V.
For KDE users:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/cantata
For non-KDE users:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/cantata-qt
When you’re done, you have to do updates to update the list repository recently added and updated list of recent apps from repositories.
Enter the following command in Terminal to do updates:
sudo apt-get update
Wait for the process updates until it’s done and make sure it doesn’t exist error on process updates. After process updates done and successful, install Cantata and MPD (Music Player Daemon) on your desktop by entering the following command in Terminal:
sudo apt-get install mpd cantata
Wait for the Cantata and MPD installation process daemon until finished. Make sure it’s not there error during the installation process and both applications were successfully installed.
To start using Cantata to play music, when you first open Cantata you are asked to configure it first. You’ll need to do a bit of configuring Cantata and MPD (Music Player Daemon) to start using it.
