Tutorial Install Linux Manjaro, Distro With Stunning Appearance
In this post I will give a tutorial on how to install Manjaro. Manjaro comes with three installers, namely Thus (still in beta), Calameras and Command Line. In this tutorial, I use the Thus installer to install Manjaro, but it won’t be much different if you want to use the Calameras installer.
Alright, let’s get straight to the tutorial.
1. First, of course you will need iso manjaro.
2. Create a bootable for Manjaro installation media, you can use a flash or DVD. And boot your laptop or computer with your installation media.
3. After your laptop or computer has been successfully booted with the Manjaro installation media, a screen like the following will appear. Enter on “start manjaro linux”.
4. Then the manjaro welcome dialog will appear. Three installation applications will appear that can be used to install manjaro. Click on the installation method you want, I chose Thus by clicking Thus, it will not be much different if you choose Calameras, or if you are advanced you can choose to install using the CLI (Command Line), so the installation process will be faster because it is light.
5. Then a screen appears to select the language for installation. Select the language for installation and then click forward. Here I choose English, you can also choose Indonesian or other languages, but I find it easier to use English.
6. You will be asked to select your country. Click “show all location” to display all countries. Then scroll down to search for Indonesia, select Indonesia and click forward.
7. Then you are asked to select your local time zone. Click directly where you are on the map and click forward. Or by clicking the zone, selecting Asia, then clicking the region, selecting Jakarta or your area, and clicking forward. Indonesia has 4 choices of regions or time zones, namely: Jakarta, Makassar, Pontianak, and Jayapura.
8. Select the keyboard layout you are using. Just leave the default because it uses a QWERTY keyboard or with a USA layout, click forward.
9. Then a system check screen will appear that tells you the minimum free space on the hard disk is 6 GB, the laptop or computer is connected to electricity and the internet for best results, just click forward.
10. Select the type of installation. The first option will offer you to wipe all hard disk data to install Manjaro, this is suitable for new laptop installations. I highly recommend that you choose the second type, namely “choose exactly where Manjaro should be installed”, which allows you to choose an empty partition that you have prepared to install Manjaro, this is also very suitable for those of you who want to dualboot Manjaro with an operating system or distro others that have been installed first, select “choose exactly where Manjaro should be installed” then click forward.
11. Determine correctly the partition where Manjaro will be installed, make sure you have prepared or there is still free space on your laptop or computer. Do not choose the wrong partition to install Manjaro, it will result in you losing your data, or you can backup your important data first.
Here I will create 3 partitions for manjaro, namely “/ (root)”, “/home” and “swap” partitions.
12. Select the partition or space where you will install Manjaro (free space is marked with the name free space) and then click new.
13. I will create a swap partition first. In the create partition pop-up menu, set the partition size for swap to size, the swap size is twice the RAM size. In use as, select “swap” and click apply.
14. Then create a root partition, select again on an empty space or an empty partition, then click new. Set the size for the root partition, on use as select “ext4”, and on the mount point select “/”, then click apply.
15. Then create one more partition, namely ‘/home”, but this is optional. Reselect on the free hard disk space, then click new. Set the size for the partition “/home”, in use as select ext4, and on the mount point select “/home”, then click apply. You can skip this partition. But I want to create a ‘/home’ partition as a storage drive for my files so that it is not a partition with the file system from linux manjaro, this can make it a little easier for me to manage files. If you don’t create a “/home” partition, the “/home” folder will be in the same partition as ‘/’.
16. The partition creation process is complete. Then click install now, so a pop-up screen will appear “these disk will have partition actions”, click apply. And click “install now” again.
17. Enter your name, computer name or hostname. Enter the username, which you will later use to login to manjaro. Then enter the password for the username and confirm the password by entering the password again. Then check the “use a root password”, enter the password for root. Root is the user with the highest privileges, you will need this root password to install apps and more. Then click forward.
18. The manjaro installation process will begin. Wait for the installation process to complete. In the process of installing manjaro, you will be given a little info on the installer about manjaro.
19. After the installation process is complete, a pop-up “installation complete!” will appear, remove the flash or installation media that you are using, click restart to start using manjaro.
Safe! You have successfully installed Linux Majaro and you are ready to use it!
