Here’s a tutorial on how to open a Zip file on Android using the Files By Google app. Unlike Windows, Android does not have a built-in tool to automatically open zip files. Zip files are great for file sharing because they compress files and turn them into a single file that can be easily shared. So it is not uncommon to find a zip file on your Android phone which cannot be opened.

Don’t worry though, you can extract and open Zip files on Android using Files by Google app. In this post, I will show you how to use this app to open zip files on Android.
Previously, we relied on third-party apps to extract files on Android. However, since the introduction of Files by Google app which comes preinstalled by default in most Android 8.0+ phones, you can open zip files without installing any other app. If your Android phone is still running the old Android version, or doesn’t have Files by Google in it yet, you can download Files by Google for free from Google play store or directly.
from here.

Unfortunately, Files by Google doesn’t associate zip files with it by default. So your Android phone will still give an error warning when trying to open the zip file even though Files by Google is pre-installed on your phone. Therefore, you need to extract the files from within the Files by Google app. Here’s how:
If your phone is running Android 8.0+, then Files by Google is installed by default. If not, download and launch the app. Now tap the tab”Browse” at the bottom. If you have downloaded the file on your phone, then the file should be in the folder “Downloads“; so tap on it. Otherwise, browse to the location where you put the file.
Now tap on the file and then tap on the option “Extract“. Once extracted, you will get the option to delete the zip file or keep it. Select the option you want and tap on it.”Finish“.
That’s it, the file will be extracted in the same folder where the zip file is.
