How to create a Microsoft Teams Private Channel

On this occasion I will share a tutorial on how to create a private channel in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams organizes conversations into Channels. Channels can be created for any type of conversation. There are no rules about what can and cannot be created, but there is a limit of 200 Channels per team.

General or standard channel is the default Channel created for all teams and this Channel automatically includes every team member. Microsoft Teams channels don’t always have to include every team member. The audience can be limited, but to do that, the channel must be made private.

Roles in the Microsoft Teams Channel

Members on Microsoft Teams Channels have roles. This role is basic, but it decides who can add more members to the Channel.

  • Owner: the person who creates the Channel automatically becomes the owner of the Channel. Other members added can be assigned this role. An owner can add more members.
  • Member: members on the Channel will get all updates on the Channel but they can’t change anything, for example, add more members or add tabs.

A role can be changed at any time by going to options Manage Channel.

Conclusion | Private channels are very similar to virtual private offices. You can hold meetings, share files, and add other app tabs. Private channels have a lock icon next to their name to indicate that the Channel is private.
