Analog television broadcasting will be phased out on August 17, 2022, with the switching process starting now. Analog television broadcasting will be completely discontinued on November 2, 2022.
That means if we don’t migrate to digital TV soon or install a DVBT2 (STB) set top box, we won’t be able to enjoy shows on TV.
So, if our TV is still analog TV, is it necessary to buy a new TV, namely digital TV? Don’t worry, you don’t need to buy a new TV, because there is a way to convert analog TV to digital TV. You can simply buy a Set Top Box (STB) or a TV decoder to convert analog TV into digital TV.

We don’t need to buy a new TV to enjoy digital TV broadcasts. According to Kominfo, old TV types, such as tubes, can still be used to watch digital TV broadcasts if they have a Set Top Box (STB) that can capture DVB-T2 signals.
How to Convert Analog TV to Digital TV
Here are the steps to convert analog TV to digital TV with a Set Top Box (STB) or TV decoder, so that your TV can pick up DVB-T2 signals:
- First, connect the STB with your TV, and make sure the TV and STB are connected to the mains
- Turn on the TV, then enter AV mode
- If there are multiple AV modes, adjust them to the STB connection, for example AV1, AV2, and so on
- After the AV mode is determined, turn on the STB
- Press the “Menu” button on the STB remote
- Look for the “Channel Search” menu and select “Auto Search”.
- Wait for the search to complete.
- If the search is complete, select “Save”. Congratulations, the digital TV broadcast signal has been successfully captured.

With a Set Top Box (STB), then you can watch digital TV broadcasts just like on analog TV. Digital TV broadcasts (DVB-T2) have clearer picture quality, sharper colors and no ants. Later digital broadcasts will also be free with no monthly fees, as is the case with Analog TV today.

Migration from analog to digital TV is done in stages. In the Coordinating Ministerial Decree Number 6 of 2022, there are 5 stages of stopping analog television broadcasts:
- Phase I: no later than 17 August 2022
- Phase II: no later than 31 December 2022
- Phase III: no later than March 31, 2022
- Stage IV: no later than 17 August 2022
- Stage V: no later than 2 November 2022
