Still confused about how to use the Windows 11 volume mixer? Clicking the sound icon only opens the volume settings, not the mixer volume. So how do you use the volume mixer in Windows 11? Read this article to the end.
Windows 11 offers a new look, and it’s definitely a breath of fresh air. Everything in Windows 11 is designed to be easy to use and more accessible. This is especially true for the newly redesigned Settings app and Taskbar.
But there are also certain things that users miss. Flyout Volume Mixer, for example. If you frequently use Volume Mixer to manage volume on different apps separately, you might find it difficult to adjust to the fact that there is no flyout for it anymore.
Sound, battery, and Wi-Fi icons act as a single unit when you hover over them. Clicking on it will bring up a new menu containing settings for Wi-Fi, sound, and battery, along with a few other options. You can even access the audio switcher by clicking on the arrow next to the volume slider.

But there is no option to open Volume Mixer in this setting. There is only the option to go to Volume settings. No matter how much you click, it doesn’t bring up the Volume mixer right away. However, the settings app’s new design still makes it easy to use in a few clicks.
In this article I will review how to open and use volume mixer in Windows 11. Here are the steps that you have to do:
How to Open Windows 11 Volume Mixer from Taskbar
To open Windows 11 Volume Mixer, go to the right corner of your taskbar, and right click on the “Audio“.

Then, select “Mixer Volume” from the options that appear.

Windows 11 will open volume mixer from sound settings. Apps that can control the volume separately will be available. Control the volume for each app by changing the position of the slider.

You can also find Volume Mixer manually from Sound settings by opening the Settings app, but it takes a few more clicks than accessing it from the Taskbar.
How to Add Classic Volume Mixer to the Windows 11 Taskbar
There is also a solution to add Classic Volume Mixer in Windows 11 which used to be a user favorite before Microsoft removed it from Windows 10. Here are the steps to add Classic Volume Mixer in Windows 11:
Open the Taskbar and click the icon “Search” or use “Windows+R” to open a dialog box Run.

Then, type “sndvol.exe” and press Enter key or run from suggested.

The Classic Volume Mixer will open.

Now, open the Taskbar and right-click the Volume Mixer app icon. From the options that open, Select “Pin to Taskbar“.

Classic Volume Mixer will now be available on your Windows 11 Taskbar. But, of course, this solution doesn’t add it to the system tray. It will be in the center (or left, depending on your preference) of the Taskbar along with the apps you pinned earlier.
