How to Add Music to Instagram Posts – Instagram has introduced a variety of new video-centric features after publicly acknowledging that it is no longer a photo-sharing app. While we’ve seen companies embrace music for Instagram Stories and Reels, Instagram is now testing the possibility of adding music to feed posts.
Yes, testing is currently limited to specific users, but if you are not a particular user, you may need to rely on third-party apps or tools to add music to your Instagram posts.

How to Add Music to Instagram Posts
Instagram is currently testing music on feed posts in India, Brazil and Turkey. Even if you are in one of these regions, you may not notice the changes right away as it is a limited rollout, as also mentioned above.
You can follow the steps below to find out how to add music to your Instagram posts and if this feature is available for you.
- Open the Instagram app and tap the + icon to create a new post
- Select the “Add Music” option
- Browse and select songs from the music library
- Send Your Post to Instagram
1. You have to first select the image and proceed to the end screen of the post-creation interface. As you might know, tap on the “+” icon on the top right corner of the app home screen to create a new post. Then, select “Post” to select the image you want to share on Instagram.
2. Once you select a filter and edit the image, you will see a new “Add Music” option on the next screen. You will also find trending carousel songs below. You can select any of the trending songs and select the part of the song you want to use or search for the song of your choice. The length of the clip can be anywhere from 5 seconds to 90 seconds.
3. Tapping on the “Add Music” option will open the music library. It includes a “For You” recommendation tab and an “Explore” tab to discover new music that you can use in your Instagram posts. Choose the right track and section, and you’re all set.
4. You can then upload the post to Instagram, and it will appear in your followers feed with the music you selected. Just like Instagram videos, viewers have the option to mute the music by tapping the speaker icon in the bottom right corner.

How to Add Music to Instagram Posts Using Third-Party Apps
Now, if you haven’t received the official option to add music to your posts, another way to add music to your Instagram posts is to use a video editor app.
Instead of directly relying on Instagram’s music library, you can choose to create short videos using images with the video editor app. In the process, you also get the flexibility to add music which is not available in Instagram’s music library.
For this tutorial, we are using VN video editor, but you can also use other similar video editor apps. Well, to create an Instagram post with music, follow the steps below:
1. Download and open VN Editor, tap the “+” icon from the bottom navigation bar, and select “New Project” to create a new project.
2. When the file picker appears, switch to the “Photos” tab and select the image that you want to post on Instagram.
3. From the top bar, tap “Original” and set the frame rate as 1:1 or 4:5. These two frame ratios are best suited for Instagram posts, and if you need a square layout, you should go for a 1:1 ratio.
3. To add music to your Instagram post, tap the Music section of the video timeline and select “Music” from the “Insert” pop-up menu. You can also choose from the editor’s default set of effects.
4. You are now ready to export the video. Before that, make sure you remove the “Directed by ” segment at the end of the video timeline if you don’t need it. To delete this section, tap the segment and press the “Delete” button.
5. Press the “Export” button in the upper right corner of the screen and set the video resolution and FPS if needed. Once ready, tap on the checkmark button at the bottom to export the video.
6. Set a desired name for the video and tap the “Save to album” button. Now, choose from Instagram’s post-voter interface and share it with your followers.
