What is a Cutter?
Slicer is a Google Sheets tool that lets you filter tables, pivot tables, and charts quickly and easily with just a click/drag of a button.
This feature floats on top of your grid and is not bound to any cells, so you can easily move it around your window, align it, and position it however you like.
Slicers are called as such, because they truncate your data, similar to filters, to provide you with customized data analytics. However, it is better than filters because it is much more visually appealing and user-friendly.
How to Create and Use Slicers in Google Sheets
Now that we understand what a slicer is, let’s now create and use this cool feature of Google Sheets. Here’s how to create and use a Slicer in Google Sheets:
1. Select the chart or table where you want to apply the slicer. As an example, we will use a pie chart so that you can see how easy the data is to filter. Open the menu and click Data > Add Slicer.

2. You will then see the cropping tool which looks like a floating toolbar. You can move it wherever you like in your sheet.

3. Then, select the column to filter in the sidebar that is displayed. If you don’t see the sidebar, double click Slicer to open it.
4. You will see the column labels for the data you are using in the Column drop-down list. Select one and you will see it displayed in the cropper.

5. Click the filter icon or the drop-down arrow on the slicer to apply the filter to the column. You will see that you can filter by conditions, such as text containing keywords or values that are greater than a certain number. You can also filter by value by deselecting the values you don’t want, leaving the values you want to be marked.

6. Click “OK” to apply the filter and you will immediately see the data and chart or table updated. You can also see the number of filtered items on the slicer itself.

7. Return to this place to change or remove filters as needed.
