Our guess is that Valve launched Steam Direct last June, which made the growth of new games very fast. Steam Direct replaces Steam Greenlight which allows game developers to release their games on Steam without going through the approval process, of course for a fee of USD 100.

I wrote last October that the forecast on Steam could reach 6,000 this year, now that it has hit 6,000 we expect it to reach 7,000 this year.
