Not long after that, Chinese OEMs also started rolling out a closed beta version based on MIUI 12 for this series of phones. However, the Android structure used is still in beta stage.

And the latest update this time Android 11 is already in a stable version, Xiaomi has prepared a stable MIUI 12 which is built on the latest Android iteration.

At the first global launch the devices that received the Android 11 MIUI 12 stable update were the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. It is also expected that other series such as MI, Redmi, and POCO will get the Android 11 update.

How to Flash Xiaomi Android 11 MIUI 12

Note that this is a flashing tutorial that generally applies to all types of Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO cellphones. However, it is possible that there may be variations that are unique to your device, so we recommend visiting forums specific to the device you are using.

Installing ROM Recovery for Android 11 – MIUI 12

ROM Recovery comes with a .zip file extension and can be installed either via Local Update from within MIUI, or via stock ROM recovery. You can also use a custom recovery like TWRP to install this ROM.

Local Update Method:

  1. Move the downloaded .zip file to your phone, and make sure you place the file in the “downloaded_rom” folder on the device’s internal storage. If there is no such folder, create your own.
  2. Go to Settings > About Phone > System Update, then press the three-dot icon in the upper right corner, and select “Select Update Package”.
  3. If the “Choose Update Package” option is missing, tap on the MIUI logo 10 times to enable this option.
  4. Select the downloaded .zip file.
  5. Wait until the update is installed.

Recovery Method:

  1. Rename the downloaded .zip file to update.zip and move it to the base directory of your phone’s internal storage (not in a folder).
  2. Reboot your phone into Recovery Mode by turning it off then pressing the Power and Volume Up buttons together.
  3. Scroll to the “Install update.zip” option using the volume buttons, and select the option using the power button.
  4. Wait until the update is installed.
  5. Select the “Reboot” option if your phone doesn’t reboot by itself after the installation is complete.

Fastboot ROM Installation for Android 11 – MIUI 12

The Fastboot ROM comes with a .tgz file extension and requires a Windows computer for installation, and a phone with an unlocked bootloader.

  1. Download MiFlash Tool on your Windows computer. You can download the latest version via this link. Once downloaded, extract the tool and install it. It is also recommended to have ADB and Fastboot installed, just in case you need them.
  2. Reboot your phone into Download mode by pressing the Power and Volume Down buttons together while the phone is off.
  3. Connect the phone to the computer using a USB cable.
  4. Download the fastboot ROM .tgz file and extract it. Remember the extract location, because you need to paste the address into MiFlash Tool.
  5. Run MiFlash Tool on your Windows Computer and in the address bar in the tool paste the extract location from Step 4.
  6. Click “Refresh” in MiFlash and the app should automatically recognize your device.
  7. Click “Run” in MiFlash to flash the ROM file to the device.
  8. The progress bar in MiFlash will turn green, indicating that the ROM was successfully installed. Your device should automatically boot to the new version.
