Tutorial on Creating a VPS on Amazon Lightsail

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is known as the largest cloud computing service provider in the world. And the good thing is that new users get free access (Free-Tier) for one year. For beginners it is of course sufficient to learn all the functions of AWS and to become familiar with the operation.

Creating a VPS on AWS can actually be done through the EC2. But unfortunately, the user cannot be sure how much it will cost considering that there is no price quoted Fixed or fit for every month.

But now you can create a VPS on Amazon at the right price per month. You don’t have to hesitate any longer with the monthly bill because you already know it. And this function is Amazon light sails.

If you previously purchased a VPS from a server provider such as Digital ocean or Vultrso creating in Lightsail is just as easy. Because this function gives you the option of installing a VPS, even for creating a WordPress-based website.

  1. First, sign in to the AWS Management Console.

  2. Click option Services and choose Light sails.

  4. First select the server location. click Change the AWS Region and Availability Zone to change it.

  5. If the location is already set, scroll down to select the platform type. Either Linux or Windows.

  6. Further down to select the operating system, for example Ubuntu.

  7. Then scroll again and click on Option Change the SSH keypair. In the section, click the Download option default.

  8. Please scroll down to the section Choose your instance planand select the correct VPS specifications based on your needs.

  9. And partly Identify your instance Please change the column with the name of the VPS to be created.

  10. The final step, click the button Create Instance and wait for the build process to finish.

The process of creating VPS through Lightsail is faster than through EC2. It only takes a few seconds for Linux platforms and a little longer for Windows platforms.

After the VPS has been successfully created, you can start managing it via SSH with credentials Username root and Standard SSH key which was previously downloaded. Or you can use it right away Cloud shell provided there.

Solution cannot access Lightsail

This is often experienced by new users who when they open Amazon Lightsail they see a notification on the page as if the page is unavailable. But the solution is very simple, please log out of the account and then log in again.

But if that still doesn’t help, please open an AWS account via Incognito mode or incognito tabs in the browser. Because most likely the problem is caused by a hanging cache.

Besides, that could also be because of that invoice which is problematic. For example, a payment error occurred while signing up for an AWS account. Usually they send a message in the email when there is an error with the account payment.
