How to fix headphones and speakers not recognized on PC

After the update or Update against Windows there is sometimes a new unexpected problem. One of them is some kind of headphone that goes undetected. If you are experiencing the same, there are several different ways I will share here to try and resolve the problem.

The first thing to think about is Audio driver. Because basically not every sound can be heard without them. And it could be the problem that the driver suddenly disappeared by itself or even needed to be updated.

Aside from the driver, what you are experiencing may not be a problem. But only has to switch on the connected headphones Manually on the computer. And the following procedures can be learned to solve this problem. Start with the simplest.

1. Set headphones or speakers as the default on the computer

After connecting the headphone cable to the computer, the device may still not be available as a Originally so there is no sound. In this case, you just need to use it as a Originally or standard.

  1. Please go to Switchboard and press option Hardware and sound

Set headphones or speakers on the computer by default

  2. Select the menu with the name sound

Set headphones or speakers on the computer by default

  3. Now select the newly added headphone or speaker device and click the button default setting

Set headphones or speakers on the computer by default

Sometimes the headphone device is also recognized as speaker and the user has to choose one of them to set it as the default. And if the above method doesn’t help, try the second method.

2. Update the audio driver

Before starting the update, it is highly recommended that users try to connect a different headphone / speaker device to your computer / laptop to see if this problem occurs on just one device or all of them.

If the problem seems to be occurring on all devices, a driver may need to be updated.

  1. Please go to Device manager and open in the section Sound, video and game controllers. Double click the current audio driver

Update audio drivers on the PC

  2. Then click the tab driver and press the button Driver updates

Update audio drivers on the PC

  3. Wait for the process to finish and make sure the internet connection is turned on

In addition, you can also use third-party programs to update drivers more easily, such as: Driver Easy. Please download the program for free by searching Google.

3. Disable audio effects

Sometimes headphones or speakers have functions for setting effects such as Equalizer, Surroundings, and many more. You can try turning this effect off to see the result later.

  1. Click on Speaker icon what is in the system tray

    Disabling sound effects in Windows

  2. Click the speaker image again

    Disabling sound effects in Windows

  3. Go to the tab effect and tick the option Deactivate all effects. Keep pressing the button Use

    Disabling sound effects in Windows

If the user successfully uses this method, it means that the problem is only on the configuration page and can still be reset if the effects feature is still required.

All of the above method can only solve problems that are classified as mild. But if the above method doesn’t solve the problem, it is very clear here that the audio driver is missing, preventing Windows from sending sound to the headphone / speaker device.

The solution when the audio driver is missing is to do repair with the original Windows CD. And if the user has no experience with it, it is recommended that they take the computer to a mechanic or contact a friend who is knowledgeable about computer repairs.

Hopefully useful and good luck
