How to disable Windows Media Player on Windows 10

Windows Media Player (WMP) used to play a very important role on computers. Because with the program all media can be played on the computer. Like music, videos and so on.

However, over time, Windows Media Player became less used as it was replaced by other programs with more functionality. Windows 10 also has a built-in photo and film program that is intended to replace this WMP.

Wouldn’t it be better for Windows 10 users to just disable it? Because it is rarely used. In addition, many people prefer to install other media player programs like VLC Player.

Disabling Windows Media Player in Windows

This method can be used on all versions of Windows. And as for this WMP is integrated functionsso it can’t beuninstall. However, you can turn it off so that the program doesn’t appear again.

Please follow the steps below to deactivate:

  1. Open the search box in the system tray.

  2. Type Windows functions and ENTER.

    Enter Windows Features

  3. Next, disable Media functions.

  4. Then click the button OK.

  5. When a confirmation dialog pops up, just click the button YES.

  6. In the last step, please restart the computer.

After the computer / laptop has restarted successfully, Windows Media Player is now definitely gone and can no longer be used. Just to be sure, you can try right-clicking a video and then selecting Open with. If you don’t see Windows Media Player, you’ve successfully disabled it.

Reactivate Windows Media Player

Deactivating them does not mean deleting them. So you can reactivate it at any time. The method is also almost the same, namely by ticking the Media functions and then restart the device.

In my opinion, Windows Media Player has become less popular as a media player. Compared to VLC or KMPlayer, the functions are of course very different. One of the most important is support Codec when playing video formats.

Windows Media Player cannot be completely removed in principle, but users can turn it off. Because it is an innate function of the operating system like Internet Explorer. And on Windows 10, that program has been replaced with a built-in program called Movies & TV.

So are you still using WMP to play videos or music? Please think again because there are many media player programs that have more functions.

Hopefully useful and good luck
