The Volkswagen ID 3 will launch under the ID series, which consists of an electric car built from the ground up. This electric car series from VW is based on the MEB (Modularer Elektrobaukasten) platform. 2. Honda e

Honda’s upcoming electric car is an EV. The Honda E was recently spotted testing under heavy camouflage. The Honda e electric car is equipped with a 124-mile battery and features fast charging for a 35.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which charges up to 80% in 30 minutes.

The Honda e is equipped with a 148 HP asynchronous motor capable of 0-62 mph in 8 seconds. The small size of the Honda e (3.83 meters long) makes it easy to park and therefore suitable for getting around in a small town. The electric car from Honda comes in a retro-modern look and is available for pre-order in the UK for just £800 or around $1000. The basic price of the Honda e starts at £36,923 or $45,000.

3. Human Horizon HiPhi 1

The HiPhi 1 is an electric SUV from China that draws inspiration from the Tesla Model X. This car is made by a Chinese company called Human Horizon or HH. The HiPhi 1 electric SUV has a range of 400 miles / 643 km (tested by China’s NEDC testing protocol) and is powered by a 268 HP electric motor paired to a 96kWh battery. It also has a 0-62 mph time of 3.9 seconds. HiPhi 1 has a 50-inch screen area, automatic electronic door, 562 sensor, Level 3 autonomy and more.

The SUV can also talk to the smart road with the help of Car to infrastructure (C2X) communication to detect problems. There is no word yet on pricing for the HiPhi 1. The electric SUV was launched in Shanghai, China, and is slated for a 2022 launch. It will launch globally in the future.

4. Porsche Taycan

The upcoming Porsche Taycan (formerly known as Mission E) is the highly anticipated car from Porsche. Having pointed out on Reddit that the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S fall into different niches, I wouldn’t call the Porsche Taycan the ‘Tesla Killer.’ The 90 kWh battery on the $120,000 Porsche Taycan is expected to deliver 320 miles of range. What makes the Porsche Taycan agile and nimble are the two electric motors, one 200HP at the front and one at 400HP at the rear.

10 new electric cars-4

The Porsche Taycan recently set a record at Nurburging for the fastest four-door electric sedan, which is kind of a special record, to be honest. However, the first ride reviews of the Porsche Taycan are pouring in from respected Auto journalists, so all electric sports car enthusiasts will want to own one.

5. Tesla Pickup Truck

The existence of the Tesla pickup truck was confirmed by Elon Musk himself during the ‘Ride the Lightning’ podcast. According to Musk, Tesla’s electric pickup truck will look nothing like the current generation Ford F150. Specifically, the electric pickup truck will have a range of 400 to 450 miles, up to 300,000 pounds of lift capacity and an estimated price of around $50,000.

According to a series of tweets by Elon Musk, the Tesla pickup truck will be called the Model B. It will also have additional features to complement the pickup truck’s adventurous nature including sonar, 360-degree camera, automatic parallel parking capability and 240 volts of power for work tools.

6. Lotus Evija

The Lotus Evija Hypercar is a 2000 PS electric hypercar with crazy limits. It will come with an 800 kW charger which will add to the battery charge in just 9 minutes. The Lotus hyper electric car comes with a 0-100 km/h time of under 3 seconds and a top speed of 250 mph or 321 km. The Lotus Evija will start production in 2022.

10 new electric cars-6

Powering the Lotus Evija are four independent electric motors producing 493 HP each and a 2,000 kWh battery. The Lotus CEO has expressed his intention to battle the Tesla Roadster with the help of the Lotus Evija. It might be a bit tricky, in my opinion, because the Tesla Roadster is much more affordable at $200,000 than the $2.1(est) million Lotus Evija. Also, the 0-60 time claimed by the Lotus Evija is less than the Tesla Model S P100D.

7. Tesla Roadster 2022

This electric car has a lot of fans around the world, and it hasn’t even been launched yet. The Roadster is the second generation of cars that Tesla first made in 2008. While the previous car was a Lotus Elise made into an electric car, it has a range of 320 km or 244 miles.

10 new electric cars-7

The upcoming second generation Tesla Roadster is a new car from the ground up. It can cover over 600 miles on a single charge, has a 0-60 acceleration time of under 1.9 seconds and even has four doors. The super-fast 1.9 seconds acceleration is thanks to a feature called Tesla “Plaid Mode” which is basically a “ludicrous mode” taken to the next level. To make the 2022 Tesla Roadster an absolute killer, the SpaceX edition has a rocket in the car.

8. Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y is an electric SUV that has a similar design language to the Model X and 3. The price range will be from $39,000 to $68,000. This SUV has 6 seats, up to a maximum range of 300 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds. The Tesla Model Y is slated to launch next year. The Standard Model Y will launch in the spring of 2022 while the long-range, dual-motor and performance variants will be released in the fall of 2022.

10 new electric cars-8

The Tesla Model Y comes at a time when demand for SUVs in the US is quite high. Naturally, it was expected to sell in bulk when it finally launched. Like every Tesla electric car, the Model Y will also come with a Full-Self-Driving package.

9. Rivian R1S And R1T

Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer based in Detroit, Michigan, will launch two products in 2022, namely the Rivian R1T and R1S. While the former is a pickup truck, the latter is a 7-seat SUV; both share a number of components, including the battery pack.

10 new electric cars-9

The R1S and R1T come in three battery packs: 105, 135, 180 kWh providing a range of 240, 310 and 410 miles, respectively. Both electric cars will come with four independent electric motors for instantaneous torque. According to Rivian, the 135 kWh variant of the R1T is the fastest with 754 HP. It has a claimed 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds and a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds.

The 135 kWh version of the R1S produces the same horsepower and reaches 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Any variant of the R1S can fetch 7,716 pounds, according to Rivian. Standards on both vehicles include autonomous technology and level 3 air suspension. The Rivian R1S is priced at $72,000 while the R1T will likely be priced at $69,000.

10. Rimac C_Two

The Rimac C_Two is the fastest car today and is made by a company that started in 2008. The C_Two has a 120 kWh battery, 0-60 mph time of 1.85 seconds, a top speed of 258 mph / 415 km/h and a battery range of 410 miles. This car costs $2 million and only 150 of them will be made, all of which are already on pre-sale. According to Rimac, the C_Two will also feature Level 4 autonomy which will be achieved using multiple sensors, lidar, radar, and a highly accurate global positioning system.

10 new electric cars-10

Rimac’s novelty in the automotive world doesn’t negate the fact that the company makes some incredibly great electric cars. Manufacturers like Audi are even planning to use Rimac’s expertise in developing the upcoming electric Audi R8.

Summary: As we’ve seen from this list, a car like the Tesla Roadster will challenge conventional cars in a big way. Not only will it offer unmatched performance, but it will also be cheaper to run than a conventional car.
